• What is a computer air duster? A Computer Air duster is a cleaning product used for electronics and computer equipment that cannot be cleaned with general cleaning agents or water. Air dusters come in a form of can which consist a mixture of gases (not air as the name would imply) that can be sprayed over a surface. When you press the button on top of the can, the gases are released in a very strong jet stream which removes dirt and dust from the surface you point it towards. 

How to use air dusters?

Unless stated on the packaging, the majority of air dusters should be used by holding them upright. If you invert or even start tilting an air duster it may result in releasing too much cold around the nozzle and liquids that have not evaporated might also leak from the nozzle. It is also advised not to use air dusters on equipment or parts of it that you come directly in contact with (keyboards, keypads, remote controls, etc.) as they contain bittering ingredients that might leave a residue which can be transferred on hands.  Another safety related matter is the fact that air dusters create really low temperature when the gases are released; as a result the whole can becomes extremely cold causing the risk of a frostbite.  Always remember to use an air duster on equipment that is unplugged from a power source to avoid any potential risks of injuring yourself.

• What is the most efficient way to use an air duster? Air dusters are efficient until the temperature within the can drops to a level in which there isn’t sufficient pressure to release gases in a strong air stream. As mentioned before, the can quickly gets cold when used and this is why it best to use air dusters in short cycles, allowing the can to regain room temperature. If you have a large cleaning job planned, the best way is to have two cans of air duster ready and switch between them, this way you won’t bring the air dusters to a temperature which would require you to stop your work at any stage. Never try to heat an air duster can with a heat source as compressed air cans are extremely flammable. 

• What are the uses of an air duster? Air dusters are most commonly used for cleaning electronic and computer components that are fragile and sensitive, meaning that they mustn’t be cleaned with your typical damp cloth and water. Dust is the biggest threat to computer or electronic parts which can cause malfunctions and air dusters are the best way to clean them is by using an air duster as it doesn’t come in physical contact with any of the parts while removing dust and dirt. Air dusters usually include a special thin extension tube which allows cleaning hard to reach areas in various types of equipment.
