The design’s external structure is shaped from steel wire—a material long used in classic Herman Miller designs for its strength and durability. Held within the frame are contoured cushions, which find added comfort from a suspension technology first developed by Herman Miller for the healthcare industry. Lumbar and throw pillows complete the offering. Lightweight and in various sizes, the versatile seating shifts with ease to meet the evolving needs of a space—and the people that work and relax in it. Casual yet sophisticated, contemporary with a sense of longevity, Hecht and Colin’s design is thoughtful reflection of how we live today. Choices include white or black frame with multiple upholstery options in two- and three-seat sofa, and lounge and ottoman.
Design Story
A Recurring Theme “Objective simplicity” is a recurring theme in the work that Sam Hecht and Kim Colin create. Says Hecht: “We need contrast to be able to create a terrific balance and equilibrium that we're searching for. It can result in simplicity that is inspirational rather than merely aesthetic.” He notes that “Kim is an architect by training and involves a macro view on the world, whereas I arrive at a project by considering details and connections.” A Light Form The designers drew inspiration from how they use a sofa—and how they believe people are living today. The result has a lightness in visual form and actual fact. “We wanted something that was visually light, that spoke of the contemporary conditions of moving a sofa from one position to another,” says Hecht. From a consideration of lightness “grew the idea of a wired frame that contains its cushions in a manner that feels comfortable to the eye as well as the body.” |

Formal Frame Wireframe's structure is external rather than internal—a durable, welded frame produced in steel rod. It's an efficient way to create large, rigid structures that are also lightweight, as Charles and Ray Eames proved in their designs. Indeed, the Wireframe's structure is about half the weight of a typical sofa, making moving and transporting it easy. |

Soft Volume The sofa's soft, contoured cushions communicate comfort. The separation of upholstery and structure allows for easy maintenance and cleaning—and for longevity. Each cushion may be simply changed, without having to completely reupholster an entire sofa. Since cushions and frame can be separated, the Wireframe is remarkably easy to fit through smaller doors. |
