With ergonomic footrests for desks you can maintain a good blood circulation even when sitting – simply move your feet on the base of a footrest. A lot of desk footrests have a massaging surface (typically in a form of plastic balls or waved platform) which is brilliant for reducing the strain of your feet – to use the massage function you need to have your shoes taken of so it might not be suitable to use in all workplaces.
What to look for in an ergonomic footrest:
• Height and tilt adjustability – this is the most important feature as it allows to set it at the most comfortable for each person using it; if a footrest can’t be customised to your very own requirements it means it is not ergonomic at all.
• Non slip surface and back - to do its job correctly a footrest needs to be stable on the floor so it doesn't move around under the desk; the top surface on which feet are place should also have a slip preventing surface so that your feet don’t slip off it.
• Size – a good footrest shouldn’t be too bulky so that you can easily place it under your desk; the footrest surface should be large enough to comfortably accommodate your feet.
• Weight – heavier footrests seem to work better as they give the users the feeling of more solid base than lightweight footrests.
