Want to buy a computer monitor? Here at huntoffice we offer a selection of wide screen monitors which makes them ideal for work on graphics and design, as well as watching movies in 16:9 aspect ratio. Some of the monitors can be used as standard televisions since they have a built in TV tuner.

If you own a desktop computer, you will need a monitor. Here at HuntOffice we offer a large selection of screens for your PC from 17 to 30 inches. We supply some of the most popular monitor brands like Samsung, LG, NEC, AOC and Acer.

Before buying any electronic equipment it is important to consider all of the options that different manufacturers and brands offer and monitors are no exception! We here at HuntOffice want to make it as easy as possible for you to choose the correct monitor for your needs.

Monitor Size

Firstly, you should consider what size you would like your monitor to be and its pixel resolution. This is important as different sizes and pixel resolutions cater to the different needs of the users.

17-inch
Many of our 17-inch monitors have 4:3 aspect ratios which would be ideal as a simple window into your PC.

19-inch
Our 19-inch screens are mostly wide screens with a 16:10 aspect ratio.

20-inch
Our 20-inch screens have a 16:9 aspect ratio, HD (270P) videos and movies will play at their original aspect ratio, this is very useful if you require a smaller monitor for showing HD media.

21.5 and 22-inch
21.5 and 22-inch monitors come with 1,920 x 1,080 resolution and at this size, monitors begin to feature more connections like HDMI and sometimes Display Port.

24-inch
24-inch monitors are the only ones that both function at 1,920 x 1,080 and 1,920 x 1,200 pixel resolutions which means that they can show HD media at its optimal resolution and even more detailed displays.

27and 30-inch
27-inch monitors are capable of 1,920 x 1,080 and 2,560 x 1, 440 pixel resolutions and the 30-inch displays run at 2,560 x 1,600 pixels. The 27-30 inch screens offer the best pixel resolutions and are typically the best choice if you want to use the monitor as a television because of their size and definition.

Panel Type

If you are clear on the size of the monitor you want, you should consider the panel type. Like the size and resolution of the screens, the Panel types all offer different advantages and should be considered before making a monitor purchase.

Twisted Nematic (TN)
The most popular panel type is the twisted nematic (TN) panels. The main advantage to these panels is their speed, normally 2ms or less response time. The TN panels are typically the cheapest Panel type.

Vertical Alignment (VA)
Vertical alignment (VA) panels do not have response time or input lag as fast as TN panels but they have a much higher maximum brightness and better colour reproduction.

In-Plane Switching (IPS)
In-plane switching (IPS) is not as fast as any of the other panels however it produces some of the most accurate colours and best viewing angles than most other panel technologies.

Plane-Line Switching (PLS)
Plane-line switching (PLS) is a new panel technology from Samsung, PLS panels have viewing angles as wide as IPS while offering higher brightness at a lower manufacturing cost and lower power consumption.

Backlight Display

Another thing to consider before purchasing your montior is its backlight display. Older monitors have used cold cathode fluorescent (CCFL) tubes as their backlight of choice but recently LED backlight displays have become the backlight display of choice. The term LCD means liquid crystal display. The crystals act as a shutter for the backlight, and, depending on the type of charge given to them by the monitor's built-in electrodes, the crystals will either allow light through to the user or shut it out, therefore expressing what you are seeing on your screen.

WLED
WLED is the most common type of LED backlight used in today's monitors, mainly because it is the cheapest and smallest of the three backlight technologies. WLED backlights also usually draw much less power than the other technologies.

RGB LED
RGB LED is different from the WLED backlight as instead of using white LEDs on one edge of the screen like WLEDs they are placed all over the panel matrix. Each individual light is capable of emitting a red, green or blue light. This makes the colours on the RGBs more accurate than what you see on a WLED display.

Connections

It is important when buying a monitor to make sure you have the right connections for your needs, we don't want you buying a monitor with the right size, panel and pixel resolution only to discover that you don't have the right connections!

DisplayPort
DisplayPort is a digital display interface. The interface is primarily used to connect a video source to a display device like a monitor but it can be used to transmit audio as well, USB and other forms of data.

HDMI
HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is a compact audio/video interface for transferring video and digital audio from a HDMI-compliant device to a compatible display device. HDMI is typically used to transfer High definition media such as blu ray or a video game system, if you are planning to use the moinitor as a television this is a nescessary feature!

DVI
Digital Visual Interface (DVI) is a video display interface. The digital interface is used to connect a video source to and to a display device, such as a computer monitor. DVI was developed to create an industry standard for the transfer of digital video content, so it is helpful to have at least one DVI connection on your monitor but not necessary for television or console use.

Lastly, if you need the best display monitor and nothing less there are a few more things for you to consider before deciding on your monitor.

Accurate colours are important for a high definition monitor, and so is the display of black, true black is elusive, so the darkest grey is best for contrast and definition between the other colours. Glossy screens can improve the contrast on the screen for movies and games but can be very reflective, if you don't want that then a matte screen is recommended.

It is also important to make sure your graphics card is up to date to get the best possible image quality.

"The monitor arrived today and I have been trying it out since. It seems great and there doesn't seem to be any lag which was important for me! I tweaked a few of the settings but nothing major had to be changed on the monitor. I think I will buy from Acer again because they seem like a good brand from this experience. I will use it for gaming and I have tried the monitor out with that already, it worked quite well with my console which is a play station."
